Approved Registration Business Types

Attendance to MJ Unpacked is exclusive to licensed THC cannabis retail and brand executives, with the title manager and above, scientists working directly in research, and investors actively investing in the space.

Registration is for paid employees or contractors currently working for the licensed company. If it is not obvious, registrants may be asked for proof of employment before approving the badge.

Retailer

Definition: Manager or above that works in the operations of a licensed cannabis retail store that sells more than one manufacturer’s brand(s) to consumers.

Registration is for paid employees or paid contractors currently working for the licensed retailer. We may ask for proof of employment before approving the badge if it is not apparent.

Retail executives take advantage of retailer pricing during registration.

Acceptable forms of business proof include one of the following:
  • Website
  • LinkedIn/ Internet Search
  • Verifiable email address with the company’s domain
If a cannabis license retail applicant:
  • Letter from CPA or lawyer that notes the party is a retail applicant
  • State-issued receipt for the application that denotes the type of license applied for

Vertical

Definition: Manager or above that works in the operations for a vertically integrated licensed cannabis company that includes cultivation, lab and extraction, manufacturing, and retail sectors. Retail must sell more than one manufacturer’s brand or family of brands to consumers.

Registration is for paid employees or paid contractors currently working for the licensed company. We may ask for proof of employment before approving the badge if it is not apparent.

Brand

Definition: Manager or above who works in the operations for a licensed cannabis company that manufactures or contract manufactures finished THC products for sale in retail outlets.

Brand executives take advantage of brand pricing during registration.

If a cannabis license applicant:

Producer/Processor

Definition: Manager or above that works for a licensed cannabis company to produce or process cannabis into useable flower, concentrates, and infused products for wholesale.

Producer/processor executives take advantage of brand pricing during registration.

Manufacturer

Definition: Manager or above that works for a licensed cannabis company and produces, prepares, processes, or compounds cannabis products directly or indirectly for wholesale.

Definition: Manager or above that works for a licensed cannabis company that cultivates, processes, and packages cannabis for wholesale.

Distributor / Delivery (B2B)

Definition: Manager of above who works for a licensed cannabis company that holds inventory from more than one manufacturer’s brand or family of brands and transports those cannabis products to a retail outlet. Distributor / Delivery B2B also applies to Class 3 wholesalers in NJ.

Distributor / Delivery (B2C)

Definition: Manager or above that works for a licensed cannabis company that takes consumer orders from a licensed retail store and delivers products to the consumer directly.

Distributor/Delivery B2C executives take advantage of brand pricing during registration.

Consumption Lounge

Definition: Manager or above that works for a licensed cannabis company that provides a space for patrons to consume cannabis on the premises.

Consumption Lounge executives take advantage of brand pricing during registration.

If a cannabis license applicant:
    • Letter from CPA or lawyer that notes the party is an applicant and notes license type.
    • State-issued receipt for the application that denotes the type of license applied for.

Accredited Investor

Definition: Either an individual who meets the requirements defined in Securities and Exchange Regulation D and is actively investing in the cannabis space; or an executive of an entity or institution that can demonstratively provide funding to licensed cannabis operators.  The latter includes executives from family offices, venture funds, banks, and credit unions who actively lend, investment banks, hedge funds, pension funds, or any other institutional investment fund.

Professionals whose primary employment is an ancillary service provider, such as a lawyer or consultant, whose income exceeds $300,000 a year, but is not actively investing in the space, are not qualified to attend as an accredited investor.

Scientist

Definition: A scientist who directly works in cannabis research with a university/college or research facility.
