It’s here! It’s here! Screw Bing Crosby and his White Christmas, this is GREEN Christmas. Merry 420 to all and to all a good buzz.
In this week’s TTH list, we take a look at local and regional brands. Specifically, brands that have products in 3 states or less. This filters out the larger MSOs as we look at the hottest edibles in Nevada by social media. To see which brands had game, we looked at March data leading up to our high holiday. (This ranking is courtesy of Pioneer Intelligence. If you love substantive weed data, you should check out their national heat index.)
Betty’s Eddies topped the chart, surely supported by the mid-March launch in Nevada of their Smashin’ Passion fruit chews. As of March, they were available in Maryland, Massachusetts, and Nevada, which qualifies them for our regional categorization even though they are making moves toward launching in Maine in April. (Betty’s focuses on edibles with great packaging, clever product names like Apple of My Pie and Orange You Beautiful, and all their products are vegan, gluten free and dairy free.)
The Tryke Companies placed on this week’s list with their Tryke Gummies, a gelatin-based gummy with vibrant colors available in Nevada, Arizona, and Washington. Tryke was to be acquired by Cresco back in late 2019 but later the deal was killed because of “regulatory delays, a decline in capital markets and now COVID-19, which brought additional risk to this transaction” per Cresco CEO Charlie Bachtell from their news release. It looks like Tryke used some of the $1M+ kill fee paid by Cresco to up their social media game.
Kynd Cannabis (#3) and Valhalla Confections (#4) are the only other brands that scored over 500 on Pioneer’s 1000-point Heat Index.
While I will be out enjoying the company of my industry friends at the 420 Chronic Relief Charity Golf Tournament here in Washington today, I hope my many friends who work in the hospitality industry in Vegas, and can’t go to work smelling like you just rolled out of Spicoli’s van, make their day a little merry with any of these top edibles in Nevada.
And for those of you who don’t live in Nevada, add this to your shopping list when you come to our event, MJ Unpacked, October 21-22, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Vegas. The only national trade event exclusively for cannabis CPG brands, retailers, and investors. Much like the emergence of edibles as a category, it is time we reinvent how we do business!
Next week, we will look at which MSOs (4 or more states) are dominating in Colorado across all categories and all pillars (social, earned media and web activity).
Disclaimer: Pioneer currently has more than 550 brands in their active pool with another 250 brands in their pipeline. Pipeline brands require six months of data before being added to the active pool. Lists of both active and pipeline brands can be found at pioneer.buzz/brands.
